Paper Smooches Sparks challenge

As soon as I saw the Paper Smooches Sparks challenge, I had this idea.  Having the day off  (thank you presidents!), I had a chance to whip this up.  Not sure if about how it came out.  I guess it’s a bit different…..

I used pinking sheers to trim a piece of pinstriped suiting fabric that I had laying around in my stash. I left the raw edge becuase I thought it was pretty.  Then I  sewed the fabric onto my cardbase on 3 sides.

Then I hand cut a little banner, stamped the sentiment, glued on a punched heart and pinned it on with a safety pin.  I added some glossy accents to the heart.  Simple.

The Play Date Cafe – Color Splash & Cas-ual Fridays

This week over at the Play Date Cafe, the challenge is to make a card that is black and white with a splash of hot pink.  These colors were a nice change of pace, because I am totally drawn to the same color scheme over and over.  And Cas-ual Fridays challenge is to make a party card with ribbon.  Perfect opp for a combo!

The leaves are a stamp set that is new-to-me.  It’s a Unity set that I grabbed a yard sale at scrapbooking yard sale a couple weeks ago.  And the Happy BDay sentiment is from a set that I picked up for cheap over at Michael’s.  I taped on some scrunched up vintage hot pink lace ribbon and adhered it under the sentiment panel.  I think it’s pretty.

I can’t stop adding a trio of rhinestones to all my cards.  It’s my favorite trend at the moment I suppose.

Twisted Sketches #94

Another Saturday of sharing over at Twisted Sketches! This week the twist was “red.”  I got totally used the sketch, but had to really make it my own this week, because I was struggling.

I used some new ribbon that I got from Paper Source.  I’m in love with it.

And that bicycle badge is from American Crafts.  I picked it up at a crafty yard sale when I first got into “fancy” supplies about a year ago.  I’ve been saving it, afraid to use it, for a year.  I just love that bike.  Don’t you?? But hoard no more!!! She’s the star of this week’s card!

Belated Valentine’s Day

Well…Happy Belated Valentine’s Day!!! I was just looking around on my memory card and found these unshared Valentine’s.  I figured I’d post them, even if a few days late.

I guess this could be used for another occassion.  I loveee that stamp set from Paper Smooches sooo much.  I might even say that “I love it to my core.”  Goodness, gracious, how I loove puns!

A bright and cheery Valentine using some gorgeous Authentique paper!

A simple cupcake card with a handmade valentine’s flag.

And this last card did not come out as I hoped, but I’m sharing anyways…

Cas-ual Fridays Paper Piecing

Let me start by informing you that I cannot spell the word, piece.  Or any “iec” word for that matter.  Thank goodness for spell check.  I tell myself “i before e, except after c” each time one of those words comes up, but I still mess them up, almost every time.  It’s just one of those things I will never remember.  But I like to think my brain is full with all sort of other useful info, so spelling “iec” words will just not fit in there.  Anywayssssssssss….I love paper piecing.  It totally adds such an impact to cards.  This week over at Cas-ual Fridays, the challenge is to create a card using paper piecing.

I stamped the pretty flower 6 times, heat embossed with white embossing powder, on three different shades of pink cardstock.  Then I cut out the centers and popped them up using dimensionals.  Added a few pearls to the center of each flower and donezo with the flowers.

A pretty sentiment and vintage lace ribbon tag, and that’s it! I am photographing my projects in a light box.  My husband made it! He’s so talented.  My photography, not so hot.  I am trying to work out, how to make my photos not suck, so bear with me!

Valentine’s S’mores Treats

Good evening!! I just finished up making lots of boxes of yummy S’mores treats for some co-workers for Valentine’s Day.  I was totally inspired by Cath’s Trigger Tuesday over Moxie Fab World.  And I this is a totally “fancy schmancy” way to package up these treats.  I used the cupcake wrappers, doily, colors, food.  And I had the best intentions to top these all off with pretty nonpareils, buuuuut, I am pretty sure I left them, unpaid for, on the checkout counter at Michael’s today.  Oh well.

I used kraft cupcake boxes and glued a doily on top.  I die cut hearts from cardboard and sprinkled on some white paint.  I die cut a butterfly and stamped it with text and made it “fly” off the heart.  A few rhinestones and that’s the top.

I punched out a few holes in the box and threaded my twine through.  I die cut tags and added those. (haha, you see my cursive handwriting, I had to practice because I suck at cursive.  I am totally jealous of anyone that has fancy cursive.) The other side of the tag is stamped in text too, just no photo of that. I added lots of that crinkly kraft paper inside to make it look pretty.

And there’s the yummy S’more treat.  That’s a lovely Martha Stewart mini cupcake liner, it’s resting in. (look at that buttery grease peeping throught!)  Click here for a link to my Pinterest board where you can find this to-die-for recipe.  It’s so easy, and all my friends have gone nuts over these guys.  Literally, I made these for a New Year’s Eve party and there was talk about hiding secret stashes of them so no one else would eat them.

And one more close of the top of my box!

Twisted Sketches #92

Yay! It’s time again for my turn over at Twisted Sketches!  Be sure to head over and check out this week’s sketch.  It’s one of my favorites.  The “twist” this week was “fresh.”  Initially thought about using a fruit stamp, but then I recalled this sentiment from Paper Smooches and totally think it’s “fresh.”

I paper pieced the tv screen and colored in all the overlaps on my sentiment, a totally copied and unoriginal idea.  I colored my rhinestones with my Copics because I am out of yellow! And the silver knobs and tv base are colored with a silver Sharpie.

Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge & Cas-ual Fridays…whoa!

And Kim is back with another great Paper Smooches Sparks Challenge featuring a lovely inspiration photo from Pinterest.  I am combining this with this week’s Cas-ual Fridays challenge, which is to make a card based on a movie.  I am choosing Monster’s Inc.  I think the colors coordinate perfectly with the movie colors.  Even though the monster is different, he always reminds me of that movie…

I was inspired by the flowers, stripes and the use of pinking shears from the photo.  To create the green card base, I used a Martha Stewart punch to create the spiky circles.  The same circle punch was used to create my flower.  I punched out some leaves and paper pieced the heart and the monster’s horns.  I used gel pen for the whites on his eyes and his ugly tooth.

I really wanted to stamp a flower stem for him to hold, but I didn’t have any Paper Smooches stamps that would work…..or so I thought.  I inked up the monster’s back and stamped that to create a flower stem.  Can you tell? I thought I was so clever.
